February is a special month because, here at Mama’s Empty Nest, we celebrate two of our family members’ birthdays.
So Happy Birthday Month to my son, my last born, and to my first born grandchild. You both are my February valentines. And I’m so thankful for you both!

Mama of this empty nest, I’m content to live a quiet, country life with my husband of 40+ years and to view gorgeous sunsets off our own back yard deck. Mama to three adults and Nana to adorable grandchildren, my empty nest fills up again with noise and laughter when they all return 'home'.
A former English teacher, reporter/editor, education director for a non-profit organization, and stay at home mom, I retired after a season of substitute teaching at a private academy. Now I enjoy time spent with my grandchildren and family and writing words that seem to pour out of my soul or wandering around the countryside with my camera.
Foremost, my faith sustains me as I meander through the empty nest stage of life. My favorite scripture is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Mama's Empty Nest 
We have two birthdays in February in our family too: our granddaughter (born ON Valentine’s Day!) and my youngest son’s wife (a week later). My mother was born on Valentine’s Birthday day as well (which is why my granddaughter has her name as one of three). It’s wonderful to be able to celebrate such wonderfulness in the rottenest month of the year!

Special people for February birthdays. I forgot that our granddaughters were one day apart. It truly is nice to have something to celebrate in the dead of winter!

I have to be honest here, I didn’t bake either one. 😉 The cake was from a bakery and my daughter baked the cupcakes for our grandchild.

In our house, the birthdays are mostly in January.

Most of ours are in the early months of the year, February through June, then a couple in September and a couple in December – cause to celebrate most of the year. 🙂
