Mama of this empty nest, I’m content to live a quiet, country life with my husband of 40+ years and to view gorgeous sunsets off our own back yard deck. Mama to three adults and Nana to adorable grandchildren, my empty nest fills up again with noise and laughter when they all return 'home'. A former English teacher, reporter/editor, education director for a non-profit organization, and stay at home mom, I retired after a season of substitute teaching at a private academy. Now I enjoy time spent with my grandchildren and family and writing words that seem to pour out of my soul or wandering around the countryside with my camera. Foremost, my faith sustains me as I meander through the empty nest stage of life. My favorite scripture is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” View All Posts

Your photos are gorgeous. I have three butterfly bushes blooming this year (all new additions to the garden last summer). I’ve only seen one Monarch so far but we have quite a few Black, Tiger, and Spicebush swallowtails as well as a number of smaller species in a variety of colours. I’m hoping to (eventually) have an entire garden devoted to plants that attract bees and butterflies!

Thanks so much, Margo! Sounds like you will have a wonderful sanctuary eventually for the butterflies! You will love it. We just have the one bush but I am amazed at the busyness on it between both butterflies (and we have a number of smaller ones and even some moth-like things that look like bees and bumble bees. It’s fun to watch!

I took a ton of shots, but this one appealed to me the most. You know, I’m not always the most patient person, but since I’ve started taking more pictures, I’ve learned to embrace that virtue. I know you have it because your photos show it so well!

I was trying so hard to be patient and try to catch this one with his wings open. He wouldn’t spread them except to suddenly fly away and those shots were all blurred. Glad you liked it!
