Time to be still

blogIMG_5629 (2)The creativity grindstone has come to a halt. I just can’t seem to squeeze out any creative juice. This Mama/Nana has been busy of late and yet stuck in the mundane mud.

My imagination has gone on hiatus. My inspiration to write is sadly missing…again.  I can’t quite put my finger on the cause, whether it be too much else to do, feeling weary and tired, or just a lack of motivation. Or maybe it’s just the dreary weather.

But I find myself sitting in front of the keyboard and drawing a blank.

I know there are words, ideas, and images up there somewhere in the expanse of my brain that seems cluttered with other thoughts right now. So I think I need a blogging break.

I need some time to think. I need some time to just be…well, not chained to the keyboard desperately attempting to put some coherent thoughts together into meaningful sentences.

So, I’m taking a bit of a break. I’ll be back after I just sit still awhile.

Mama of this empty nest, I’m content to live a quiet, country life with my husband of 40+ years and to view gorgeous sunsets off our own back yard deck. Mama to three adults and Nana to adorable grandchildren, my empty nest fills up again with noise and laughter when they all return 'home'. A former English teacher, reporter/editor, education director for a non-profit organization, and stay at home mom, I retired after a season of substitute teaching at a private academy. Now I enjoy time spent with my grandchildren and family and writing words that seem to pour out of my soul or wandering around the countryside with my camera. Foremost, my faith sustains me as I meander through the empty nest stage of life. My favorite scripture is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

  1. Gonna miss reading your wonderful thoughts but everyone needs to step back now and then and smell the roses. After all, God wants us to be still and reflect on His glory. Get refreshed so we can enjoy your inspirations in the near future.

  2. Creativity is the act of breathing in and breathing out. We must take in as much or more than we put out. Sit, breath, walk, argue with a tree, talk to a bird, watch the sunrise.

    Fill your creative soul.

  3. You so effectively clarified what life is for many of us…busy yet mundane. We hear you! Sometimes, we thinkers just don’t have thoughts to write for a while. Similar to the other comments you have already received, I completely and totally relate. Go live out the busy-ness God has you immersed in right now and enjoy Spring whenever it decides to show up. God bless you and your family.

  4. It happens to us all. That’s why I try to keep at least one nearly-completed post in my files for the times when I just can’t quite get back in rhythm. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t, but I don’t worry about it. Forcing things never helps, at least in my experience.
