A warm, heartfelt welcome!

Mama’s content to lead a fairly quiet country life with my husband of 40+ years in my beautiful northeastern home state after residing in the Southwest, Midwest, and Pacific Northwest.

After short stints as an English teacher, newspaper reporter/editor, and technical editor, I traded in my working girl hat for my most important career – stay at home mother to three children, who have since grown up and flown the nest.   

I first started blogging when I was recuperating from cancer surgery several years ago, but as life and the busy world of a part-time job, children in high school and college, and spending time with my last living parent resumed, I just stopped writing.   As my nest emptied out though, expressing my thoughts and insights in words became my refuge and this blog, Mama’s Empty Nest, breathed life.

Just muddling through.

While I muddle through this stage of life with its changes and emotions,  my hope is to encourage my readers through my experiences. Even though my nest is empty, I find my heart is full.

A lover of words since I was a child,  I keep an old notebook chock full of quotes which I use along with God’s Word, my guidebook for life, for writing inspiration. Saved by grace, my faith in Jesus Christ sustains me and my favorite passage is “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” ~ Thessalonians 5:16-18.

And here I am now.

Since leaving a 13-year-long ministry as an Education Director for a non-profit a number of years ago, I spent a season of time substitute teaching at a private academy.  But now I am enjoying retirement and absolutely love spending time with my way too adorable grandchildren. 

More often than not you can find me tapping away on my desktop computer writing words that seem to pour out of my soul or wandering around the countryside with my camera held up to my eye.

I’m just an amateur photographer but I absolutely love being behind my camera lens capturing whatever appeals to me. I do strive to use my own photographs to accompany my writing and my hope is that you enjoy my pictures as much as I do.
