The long month of January is finally coming to a close. And as the snow still flies outside my window and temperatures plummet to single digits and below, winter still clutches us in its grasp.
We still have the winter month of February to come and often we get record amounts of snow during those 28 or 29 (if it’s Leap Year) days. And we’ve even been graced with the white stuff throughout March in the past, so…who knows when winter will depart? Not even the groundhog knows for sure.
No doubt spring probably won’t arrive for quite some time yet.
But in the words of our Little One (our oldest grandchild who will soon turn four), “When is it going to be Spring? I miss the grass!”
She likes snow and enjoys playing in it, even begging Papa to let her help shovel the sidewalk, but like the rest of us, she still yearns for sunshine and warmth and color.

I feel for those in the middle of the country this week! Oddly, we escaped the deep cold here: it pass to the east of us.
One of the nicest things about winter is that is is followed immediately by spring!

We definitely are in the deep freezer here. Negative temps this morning with wind chill of -20°. It certainly has derailed my morning walks with my friend!

It’s beautiful to look at, but brr! That’s why we’re here in beautiful 72 degrees. My bones can’t take that cold stuff. Wish you were here too.

I’m wishing I was there with you too! Already down below zero and with the wind chill….

-8 this morning, with a -20 wind chill factor. Ugh. But every cloud has its silver lining. Snow geese are feeding in the fields and a Bald Eagle swooped by our swing set!!!! 😁

Brrrrr! But yay for seeing the beautiful birds! Down to single digits here so obviously, no outside walking for my friend and me. 😦

I imagine there are a lot of people north of here who are asking the same question, although I suspect just being above freezing would quailfy as ‘spring’ at this point.

For certain! It’s been a brutal winter out on the plains.

A few lines from a favorite poem: “Oh, that’s the reason a bird can sing: on his darkest day, he believes in spring!”.
