Looking inside

“Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.” ~ Michelangelo

I think every mundane and usual thing we encounter in our world has a photograph inside it and it is the task of the photographer to discover it.  All we have to do is open our eyes and look – really look.  Observe.  Peer.  Examine.  Tilt your head this way or that and be amazed at what you may see right in front of you.

A maple tree stands in our front yard.  We planted it shortly after we built our house in this farmer’s field 13 years ago.  It’s grown so tall that my husband has lopped off some of the bottom branches so he and his garden tractor can pass beneath it to mow.

One day I just meandered through the yard…looking…here then there.  I peered at the knot in that maple tree where once a branch stretched outward and inside I discovered this surprise. You never know what you’re going to find when you look inside.

“Happiness is an inside job.” ~ William Arthur Ward
