Wordless Wednesday: covered bridges of Somerset County
Author: Mama's Empty Nest
Mama of this empty nest, I’m content to live a quiet, country life with my husband of 40+ years and to view gorgeous sunsets off our own back yard deck. Mama to three adults and Nana to adorable grandchildren, my empty nest fills up again with noise and laughter when they all return 'home'. A former English teacher, reporter/editor, education director for a non-profit organization, and stay at home mom, I retired after a season of substitute teaching at a private academy. Now I enjoy time spent with my grandchildren and family and writing words that seem to pour out of my soul or wandering around the countryside with my camera. Foremost, my faith sustains me as I meander through the empty nest stage of life. My favorite scripture is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” View All Posts
I love seeing those bridges, especially so because we don’t have any of them here.

Glad you enjoyed seeing them, Montucky. We have a lot of covered bridges here in my home state and hubby and I need to go see more of them.

Odd, but a friend just suggested I do a blog about covered bridges in Virginia. I got as far as a bit of research and discovered there are 8 here. Maybe there’s a blog in there somewhere, but I will wait until it percolates. Meanwhile, thanks for sharing this lovely example. 🙂

Dor, if you happen to be on Route 58 near Clarksville and see a road sign that says “Covered Bridge Rd”, don’t fall for it. It’s a dead end, and there is no covered bridge!

Love those old bridges but may not want to drive through it 😉

We actually did drive through the first one as it is still used by local traffic. The second one though is closed.

Oops….I was dropping you a note to tell you I’d nominated you for some blog awards, and just realized that you already have one of them….. Just shows your blog really IS addictive!

There are so many awards out there, it gets hard to keep track of who has them and who doesn’t. I know I’ve received some twice, which is so kind. Twice the love, I guess. 😉

Aren’t they? A daughter of one of my friends actually got engaged in one. They took wedding photos at a covered bridge too. So sweet.
