For me, they are PEonies. We dug these out of my parents’ yard after my dad died and we sold the house and transplanted them in ours. So they are a little piece of “home” for me and I love to see them bloom.
I’m astounded. I don’t think I’ve ever seen peonies in the pretty sunlight! No matter where I lived, NY, PA or MidWest, all the peonies seem to fully open the week we have torrential rains and lay flat on the ground covered in mud. It seems to never fail. Glad you enjoyed yours.
Love peonies! And love the history of yours–I planted one each in honor of our mothers who passed away last year, and they did not bloom much…maybe next year! Gorgeous photos, Mama!
A ‘corral’ is a good idea! Ours are getting large enough now that they do get top heavy, so we were just talking about finding something to hold them up next year.
I love our peonies too. And you’re so right, they bloom profusely and then boom — they’re gone. Not long after I took these photos, ours were bent down from a rainstorm that came through.
Beautiful! So: do you pronounce it “peOHny” or “PEony”?

We did have a downpour after I took those pictures and they were all flattened. So sad. But I got to enjoy them for several days before that happened.

Ours didn’t bloom much the first year either, but after that, they’ve been beautiful. I bet yours will take off next year!
Those are beauties! Ours were extra nice this year too for some reason, possibly because I built a “corral” to hold them up..

My absolute favorite flowers….May comes, they bloom, and, all too quickly, they’re gone. Love these photos.
